UNiK was founded in the late 1980s by Mr A.K.Ng, a former secondary school teacher. He saw a commercial potential of the locally written past-year examination papers for Penilaian Darjah 5, SRP and SPM. Despite being inexperienced in the publishing industry, he was determined and believed in his vision.
With his entrepreneurial spirit and more than 15 years teaching experiences in elite schools, he worked at expanding the publishing house and creating UNiK into a technology-based publishing house.
UNiK has grown by leaps and bounds and is now recognised as the people's publisher for its quality yet affordable publications in the country.
In 1996, the Malaysian Government launched the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) programme in order to accelerate the objectives of Vision 2020 and to transform the country into a modern state, with the adoption of a knowledge-based society framework. Education in multimedia as one of the MSC flagship applications pulled UNiK into the new digital frontier where new ways of learning and teaching are explored. This provides UNiK with a competitive edge over traditional publishing through innovative development of technology-based educational contents.
To stay relevant, UNiK continuously responded to the needs of the 21st century by creating technology-based learning and teaching solutions that are user-friendly, interactive and fun for teachers and students. Yet we have not forgotten our founder's passion for education. He had always emphasised that underprivileged learners should have the equal opportunity in access to quality education. Thus, we spread our area of interests in the development and distribution of multimedia courseware, mobile applications, online learning platform and creative contents for IPTV technology to teachers, parents, MOE and private entities, at affordable price.
